Finding Green Jobs Online

Marketing & Sales — By Mark Wanczak on August 11, 2009 at 4:49 pm

In light of CareerBuilder’s announcement today of their new green job site, goinggreenjobs.com, I thought it beneficial to Konstructr readers to provide a single resource listing the best online sites to find green jobs. As the green building market continues to rise, so does the demand for the unique skills and experience of those who live and the breathe the industry.

In true grassroots form, some of the best green job listings can be found on green blogs, such as Treehugger. Other sites are taking the more traditional route focusing exclusively on the emerging job market. Aptly named Environmentalcareer.com provides professional job listings, as does Sustainablebusiness.com, self-proclaimed as only sustainable business job service. Also of note is GreenEnergyJobsOnline.com, which provides listings, but whose overly simple design (among other things) leads me to question the site’s credibility.Hot topics, such as green jobs, tend to attract scam and fake sites, so be sure to thoroughly explore any green job or job site before serious consideration.

Some may call into question the validity of what a green job may be, and they have a point. Most of what we would consider ‘green jobs’ fall into an existing professional discipline, such as engineering or architecture. But, given the recent rise in popularity of the green job, particularly the government’s role in increasing these jobs, I think this post’s helpful intention is valid.

Know of any other green job sites or resources? Leave them in the comments below and we’ll add them to the list.

UPDATE: Preston over at Jetson Green, one of my favorite green building blogs, has a new beta green job board, complete with it’s own Twitter account.

Hope that more green jobs will be available not only in the nation, but across the world. Not only will it make our environment a better place to live in, but it will also alleviate the high and growing unemployment rate.
