Green is a Go on Twitter
Marketing & Sales — By Mark Wanczak on June 25, 2009 at 7:39 amMaybe you’re like Vik, a pro at using social media tools to not only help market your business, but also to expand your knowledge base. Or, maybe you’re new to blogs and social networking and looking for a resource to help you get started.
If you use social media for nothing else, use it as a communication tool to connect with others with similar interests, whether it be personal or professional.
Many folks who aim to live greener or support sustainability do so both personally and professionally. This leads to a community with a wide variety of expertise, from engineering water recovery systems by day to designing organic clothing by night. No stone seems to be left unturned.
Social media outlets connect these individual resources like never before, gathering the knowledge base and closing the knowledge gap. No where else is this more evident than Twitter. There are hundreds if not thousands of folks sharing original, quality green information daily on Twitter. So, where do you start?
One reliable source to pick up social media tips and news, no matter how basic or advanced, is Mashable.com. I recommend beginning with Mashable’s 75+ Environmentalists to Follow on Twitter. Take a few minutes and browse the list and start following those most appealing to you. Soon, you’ll see who you favorite tweeps are consistently chatting with and will lead you other people to follow.
When it comes to green news, Twitter serves as my news feed. When I get the chance to read up on green blogs throughout the day, I often find that I’v already seen a post or headline tweeted. What I also love about Twitter is that people take a blog post and, instead of just copying the post’s title, insert their own opinion as the headline in their tweet. I may end up reading the same post three times, but was lead there will three different opinions, each intriguing enough to make me click on the link.
